Para-logical Suspension
Emerging from a period of personal transition, Para-logical Suspension explores the tension between seemingly contradictory states of being. Through a recurring hybrid figure, part bird, part human, the drawings reflect on identity as an ongoing process of transformation.
The work grew out of a time when my relationship with myself and others was shifting. I found myself desiring closeness while wishing for solitude. I wanted to belong, but also to remain an outsider. These opposing desires inhabit the hybrid figures, my alter egos.
Flowers appear at the center of this shifting world. They evoke the idealized presence of the beloved, the divine, and a vulnerable body within the threatening structure of constant change.
Rather than resolving these opposing forces, the drawings remain suspended between them, where neither the figures nor their relationship to the ideal reaches a final state of balance.
